Industrial Modular System – Fast, Precise, and Efficient

Thermodul System is not just a construction material – it’s a complete system. Large, full-story formwork modules reduce the number of joints, increase accuracy, and accelerate construction. Thanks to patented stiffening technology, modules can be poured in a single monolithic step, without auxiliary formwork or external supports, providing stability and durability unmatched in the ICF market

Technology

The Thermodul System is an innovative, industrialized construction technology based on permanent insulated formwork (ICF). It is not just a building material, but a complete monolithic reinforced concrete system combining fast execution, outstanding structural safety, and high energy efficiency.

Unlike traditional small “Lego-like” ICF blocks, Thermodul uses large industrial modular panels. The 1.2 × 3 m, floor-height wall elements significantly reduce the number of joints, increase wall accuracy, and drastically speed up construction. The exterior walls of an average family house can be built from as few as 28–40 panels per level.

The system’s unique rigidity comes from high-density polystyrene and a patented PVC connector system, allowing walls to be cast in a single monolithic pour without auxiliary formwork or external supports. The 30 cm-thick insulated panels enclose a concrete core that cures faster, forms a more homogeneous structure, and achieves higher final strength.

The Thermodul T-30 walls have a thermal transmittance of U = 0.10 W/m²K (up to 0.098) and sound insulation of Rw = 50 dB. TF-25 floor elements allow spans up to 6.4 m, forming a fully monolithic unit with the walls. Tests show Thermodul concrete achieves 6000+ Rockwell hardness, compared to ~4200 for traditional concrete.

The insulated THERMODUL foundation is laid on a well compacted gravel base.
The thickness of the gravel is determined based on the soil, and then tamped.

In order for the coarse tamped gravel to be accurately level it needs to be levelled with a layer of fine crushed gravel using
laser level.
The structure of the gavel base forms a drainage layer.

A layer of geotextile separates the gravel base from the insulation. If there is underground water, waterproofing is also necessary. The isolated foundation is built in accordance with the specific characteristics of each construction site.

Thermodul Insulated Foundation – Intelligent Base
Traditional strip foundations and concrete slabs have long been standard, but modern energy and structural requirements reveal limitations. Ground cold and moisture create thermal bridges, and in earthquakes, cracks or settlements can occur. These systems do not meet passive house or nearly zero-energy building standards.

The Thermodul System offers a completely new foundation approach. It is based on a compacted gravel bed that provides natural drainage, does not conduct moisture, is frost-resistant, and remains stable under dynamic loads. On top, a high-strength EPS tray acts as both precise formwork and permanent insulation. The monolithic reinforced concrete slab is cast within this tray, with 20 cm bottom and 12.5 cm side insulation, creating a fully thermal-bridge-free, energy-active foundation.

Slab thickness is adjustable to structural needs.

The default 25 cm double-reinforced slab already exceeds conventional strip foundation capacity. For multi-story buildings, high loads, or seismic areas, it can be increased to 30–35 cm or more. The monolithic slab distributes loads evenly, acting as a structural platform and providing excellent earthquake safety.

All mechanical and electrical lines – water, sewage, electricity, ventilation – run directly in the insulated tray. No chasing, extra screed, or heat loss occurs. Installation is clean, fast, logical, on one level, and in a dry environment. The result is a foundation that is structurally strong, passive-house-level energy efficient, moisture- and frost-proof, earthquake-safe, maintenance-free, and sets the standard for the building’s comfort, safety, and long-term value.

The
insulated foundation
is reinforced with double steel mesh.

The ventilation system via earth collectors can be built in before
concreting the reinforced foundation. After the concrete hardens
the house can be built on this massive foundation.

The insulated foundation built with unconventional, innovative technology ensures not only optimal insulation, but also long service life of the building.
The walls are attached to the built-in iron hooks.

The walls are precisely raised starting from the corner, ensuring flatness. If each block is precisely adjusted, the corners will be at right angles and the walls will be perfectly raised.

Erecting interior and exterior THERMODUL walls
THERMODUL houses have the following insulation:
This ensures the least energy loss. These building require only a fraction of the energy required by traditionally built buildings.

14 cm thick insulation
from the attic

14 – 14 cm thick exterior wall insulation

10-10 cm thick
interior and partition walls

25 cm thick
ceiling insulation

15 cm thick reinforced concrete frame

After erecting the walls the ceiling
blocks are put into place.
The 25 cm thick insulation of the ceiling ensures that heat does not escape from inside of the house.

LET US LOOK AT
A 10 X 10 M EXAMPLE HOUSE

BRICK

300 KWh/m2

BRICK + EPS80

150 KWh/m2

THERMODUL

15 KWh/m2

If we use brick, the yearly amount of energy required exceeds 300 KWh / m2.

If the same brick house has a 10 cm thick surface insulation which is not more than 12 m3 EPS 80 (approx. 13-14 kg / m3 dense) , the energy required is reduced to half of the amount, i.e. approx. 150 KWh / m2 /year.

If the 10 x 10 m house is a THERMODUL house with heat recovery ventilation system, the amount of energy required is reduced to 15 KWh / m2 / year.

Why?

When building a 100 m2 brick house people usually use a 12 m3 low density EPS. However, the 125 m3 high density, graphite-enriched EPS ensures that there are no thermal bridges in the THERMODUL house.

The drastic difference in the amount of energy required by THERMODUL buildings is due to the quality and amount of insulation used.

THERMODUL buildings combine innovative features and solutions for a perfectly thermal bridge-free structure without using much effort. Heating requires a low amount of energy since there is no need to heat up a more than 100 tones area. With the help of this technology it is enough to heat the air, which can be done with a minimum amount of energy, even solar energy.

The easiest solution is electric heating using carbon fibre. The heating foil using carbon fibres is built in under the concrete and heats the concrete substrate from below. This in turn stores the heat and keeps the whole house warm. It can easily be connected to a solar system, making the heating system autonomous. There is no need for energy storing since the generated electricity through carbon heating is utilised as thermal energy. Of course, other alternative heating systems can also be used.

The construction of the 220 m2 floor area building including walls, ceiling and stares
took 11 workdays with 5 workers.
The Thermodul system offers perfect insulation as well.

Thermal bridge-free
installation

Installing doors and windows into the Thermodul walls of the perfectly thermal bridge-free passive houses

Thermodul buildings are heavily insulated, thus thermal bridge-free and their heat retention is unique. After heating up the space and turning off the heating, the temperature drops by only 3Co in 48 hours even in the coldest winter. Cooling the house during the summer heat, with the application of the heat recovery ventilation system and earth collectors ensures a pleasant temperature of 24 Co at which the inhabitants can feel comfortable. Walls will not heat up even on very hot days. The only 24 Watt/hour energy requirement of the ventilation system is insignificant compared to the amount required by traditional air conditioning systems.

The technology enables windows to be fitted into a prebuilt polystyrene frame, the thickness of which corresponds to the thickness of the wall insulation. Consequently, thermal bridges around the windows, which could lead to mould formation, are eliminated.

A quote from Dr. Bálint Petró,
professor of building structures:

„You shouldn’t skimp on insulation! Insulation is only a fraction of the total building costs. The value in our national standards only provides the minimum insulation thickness. Industrialized country requirements, however, prioritize a value that is half or double this threshold value. The optimal structure should be designed not for the moment of construction or the date of establishment, but for the entire life of the building, which is defined by the choice and use of durable, good quality insulation of adequate thickness.”
